“Practice Babies” explores the phenomenon of women who use small animals as surrogates for children, fashion or lovers as a direct reaction to societal pressures related to gender roles. In this series, the women are poorly executed versions of ultra-feminine and glamorous classical models, while the pets exist in a state of abject horror or complete indifference at the overbearing attention given to them.

The creatures become symbols of existential domestication; they are impossibly tiny and have lived their entire lives in captivity as they were created only to fill roles they will never comprehend and can never fulfill.
